*|MC_PREVIEW_TEXT|* Innovation in trustworthy video-based solutions for Active and Assisted Living (AAL) Check out our work in 2022 Several research papers and studies related to privacy, AAL technology, and the challenges of using cameras for elderly care have been published as the halfway mark of a visuAAL project is reached. The studies discuss crucial topics like the challenges of nudity, criminal justice, and public perception. These studies offer valuable insights and recommendations for anyone seeking to enhance privacy in technology. More than 15 studies and conference are available on Zenodo, an open-access academic research platform, and have been shared at conferences and forums in the sector. Read more Sophie Noiret presented her work on the fairness of visual privacy preserving algorithms at the AAAI-23 Workshop on Artificial Intelligence for Privacy Preservation (PPAI-23), held in Washington D.C. last February. In collaboration with Siddharth Ravi, Martin Kampel and Francisco Florez, this study is expected to contribute to deepening the understanding of privacy and facial recognition, as well as raising awareness on this topic. The last CVWW WORKSHOP was a great success for our team, as our researchers, Wiktor Mucha and Martin Kampel, presented their new 2D hand pose estimation model. This innovative technology is set to be a game changer when it comes to integrating technology into everyday life, as it has the potential to revolutionize the way we interact with devices and machines, as well as to advance the field of computer vision. Maksymilian Kuzmicz participated in the 38th #CSUNATC23 Assistive Technology, where he spoke about European Digital Law and the Multilayed Information Obligation (IO) crucial for consumer protection in assistive technologies. Our researcher Tamara Mujirishvili presented some outcomes from her qualitative study on attitudes towards video-based AAL technology at the last working group meeting of the GoodBrother COST Action Our next event 2nd visuAAL Doctoral Seminar Our second Doctoral Seminar will take place in Stockholm, in which our researchers will present the advances in their projects, and the planned work for the following months. April 20-21 In the future 22 April 2023 International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies for Ageing Well and e-Health - Prague, Czech Republic In April, at the International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies for Ageing Well and e-Health (ICT4AWE) in Prague, Sophia Otten, Wiktoria Wilkowksa, Julia Offermann, and Martina Ziefle will present their work on trust in visual assistive living technology and its acceptance in an overburdened healthcare system, where video-based AAL offer a good alternative to support people in need of help. A work that allows to assess their main advantages and barriers, from the need to understand how trust influences the acceptance of these technologies. 24 May 2023 International Conference on Computer Ethics: Philosophical Enquiry 2023 (CEPE 2023) - Chicago, USA Maksymilian Kuzmicz will present in May his work to asking Digital Rights: European or Universal? The EU Declaration of Digital Rights from Legal and at the CEPE 2023 about Human-AI Interactions and the Future: Values, Responsibilities, and Freedoms. Our German partner is RWTH Aachen University in Germany, in which Prof Martina Ziefle heads the Chair of Communication Science. Their research is concerned with human interaction and communication of humans with technology addressing the human factor in different technology types and using contexts. Special focus is directed to humans and their interaction and communication with smart medical technology. The Swedish Law and Informatics Research Institute (IRI) is an independent research unit at the Department of Law at Stockholm University. IRI explores the interaction between Law and Information Technology. Prof Peter Wahlgren and Dr Liane Colonna lead the participation of IRI in visuAAL. The aim of visuAAL is to bridge the knowledge gap between users’ requirements and the appropriate and secure use of video-based AAL technologies to deliver effective and supportive care to older adults managing their health and wellbeing This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement No 861091.
