The event focused on the latest developments and future challenges in assistive technologies (AAL), featuring keynote lectures and presentations from leading European academics on video and audio-based technologies, intelligent sensing systems, and machine learning algorithms. The first day was dedicated to the visuAAL project, while the remaining days facilitated the exchange of experiences among GoodBrother COST Action members. The conference provided a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration, promoting networking among participants and offering insights into emerging trends and ethical considerations in AAL development. Attendees also had the opportunity to experience the local culture during the Fogueres of Sant Joan. Read more Hi Ken, welcome to the visuAAL team! We welcome Kentaro Tanaka, the latest addition to the visuAAL team at Trinity College Dublin. Ken will apply his expertise in physiotherapy and rehabilitation to focus on "Healthcare providers' perspectives on the use of visual technologies in telemedicine".His work aims to analyse and synthesise current research on end-user perceptions of video-based Assisted Active Living (AAL) technologies to improve health outcomes, cost-utility and quality of life for older people and their carers. Visit his profile to learn more Tamara Mujirishvili and Anton Fedosov participated from 11-16 May, in the prestigious CHI2024 in Hawaii, where they presented their work "I Don't Want to Become a Number" made with Kooshan Hashemifard, Pau Climent-Pérez and Francisco Florez-Revuelta. It is a unique perspective on video surveillance systems for older people care, with an emphasis on privacy by design and a commitment to ethics and sensitivity in assistive technology. The full text can be read here Caterina Maidhof shared the results of an exploratory research focused on the impact of cultural activities on the well-being of older adults, to demonstrate their interest in attending and participating in these events, virtually with Martina Ziefle and Andreas Sackl at the Austrian Institute of Technology AIT. Our researcher Maksymilian Kuźmicz participated on 26 April 2024 in the Science Today event focusing on the impact of smart machines on our future and the evolving relationship between humans and technology, in a panel discussion exploring the intersections between law, technology and society led by Olof Somell from the Nobel Prize Museum at the Kungliga Tekniska högskolan of Stockholm. Zhicheng He presented his research on 'Health data governance in the era of digital health: EU and Chinese legal approaches'. It is a comparative study that highlights similarities and differences in health data governance between the two regions and provides recommendations for policy makers and academics to adapt their legal frameworks to the challenges posed by health data in the digital age. Our network coordinator Francisco Flórez-Revuelta was invited to give a keynote at the Sinteza 2024 Conference at Singidunum University, Belgrade. He presented some outcomes from the visuAAL MSCA Innovative Training Network and the GoodBrother COST Action on trustworthy video-based applications for active assisted living. In My Perspective, In My Hands On May 29th, Wiktor Mucha presented the results of his research titled "In My Perspective, In My Hands: Accurate Egocentric 2D Hand Pose and Action Recognition" with Martin Kampel at the 18th IEEE International Conference on Automatic Face and Gesture Recognition. The study pioneered 2D hand pose estimation for egocentric action recognition, reducing reliance on cumbersome 3D sensors. Additionally, EffHandEgoNet outperformed state-of-the-art models, providing faster inference times and superior accuracy, marking a significant advancement in egocentric video understanding. HAPPY SUMMER visuAAL is an Innovative Training Network that brings together 5 beneficiaries and 14 partner organizations from Austria, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. The aim of visuAAL is to bridge the knowledge gap between users’ requirements and the appropriate and secure use of video-based AAL technologies to deliver effective and supportive care to older adults managing their health and wellbeing This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement No 861091. view this email in your browser Copyright © *|CURRENT_YEAR|* *|LIST:COMPANY|*, All rights reserved. *|IFNOT:ARCHIVE_PAGE|* *|LIST:DESCRIPTION|* Our mailing address is: *|HTML:LIST_ADDRESS_HTML|* *|END:IF|* Want to change how you receive these emails?
